Ama Dablam Peak Expedition

“For a climber, saying that you are stopping by Everest is like saying that you are stopping by to see God.” An enthralling climbing peak Ama Dablam (6812m) is considered as one of the most esoteric,  awkward and intoxicate peaks in the Everest Region. The south-west ridge is the usual climbing route of galvanizing the Ama Dablam peak. Ama Dablam means Mother’s necklace in the local language. The name comes from the unique shape where it seems a mother is holding her baby with a necklace like a glacier.


The climber should have strong mountaineering background, previous high altitude experience, mental and physical timbre condition to conquer fascinating Ama Dablam Peak. Almost every attempt of the Trek Nepal Himalayas team is done from the South-Western ridge to the summit. The climbing peak Ama Dablam is conquered by 4 climbers in 1961 A.D. There are two members of the team from New Zealand, one from the UK and the last one from the USA. At least three camps are required to conquer Ama Dablam peak smoothly. One can embark majesty Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Island peak(6189 m), Makalu (8463m), Khumbu Himalayan and rest of the snowcapped surrounded mountains.


Ama Dablam expedition starts from Kathmandu with Sightseeing of UNESCO listed world heritage sites such as Swoyambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bauddha Stupa, etc. Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Island peak(6189 m), Makalu (8463m), etc. are the snow-capped mountains, Tengboche monasteries, tradition and culture of local people, diverse landscape are the major attraction of this trip. The spring season and the month of October are considered the best expedition season. Amadablam Expedition is itself an astounding mountaineering trip and it becomes even more complete and noteworthy with the experienced, knowledgeable climbing team of Trek Nepal Himalayas.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

Upon our arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, a Trek Nepal Himalayas representative will be there for your warm welcome and will escort to your hotel. In the evening, you will have a welcome dinner with our staff in one of the typical Nepali restaurants at Thamel. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing and trip preparation

After delicious breakfast at the hotel, we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu which are also UNESCO World Heritage sites. The sightseeing program is focused on introducing some highlights of UNESCO World Heritage sites of Kathmandu such as Kathmandu Durbar square, Swoyambhunath, also known as &ldquoMonkey Temple&rdquo, Pashupatinath &ndashtemple of Lord Shiva and Bouddhanath a Buddhist place. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla (2,800m/9,184ft) then trek to Phakding (2,652m/8,700ft): 40 min flight, 3-4 hours

After breakfast, we take an early flight to Lukla, from where our trek begins. The scenic flight to Lukla is about 40 minutes. In Lukla, we meet our remaining crews and will have a short safety talk. After then we gear up for short trekking to reach today&rsquos destination Phakding following Dudh Koshi the Dudh Koshi River &lsquoRiver of Milk&rsquo. A gentle walk to Phakding is about 3 hours. Overnight at Teahouse/Hotel.

Day 4: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft): 5-6 hours

Day to get the first glimpse of Mt. Everest. After breakfast, today we trek approx. 6 ½ hour to Namche Bazar. The route follows the Dudh Koshi River through many suspension bridges. A learning day to walk at high altitude apparently takes us to Namche Bazar- the trading center of Khumbu Region. Namche will be the last point to check equipment and hire additional gears for high altitude.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazar (3,440 m/11,283 ft)

Today is our first acclimatization day in Namche Bazar. We can visit the Tourist Visit Center and can observe about Sherpa culture and the number of plants and animals that can be found in the Everest Region. We can spend this day in Namche Bazar with hiking to Thame or relaxing and exploring Namche Bazar.

Day 6: Namche Bazaar to Debuche

The stunning place Debuche is our today`s planned destination for this day. The journey leads through traditional but glorious village and crosses the Dudh Koshi River while also enjoying the fascinating views of gorgeous Himalayan ridges such as mount Everest, Mount Lothse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam, etc. we reach the Tengboche Monastery after passing stiff trail.  After spending some time in Monastery we trek to Debuche overnight. Overnight at Teahouse/Tent.

Day 7: Debuche to Tengboche (4,300m/14,107ft): 4-5 hours

Today is another strenuous walking day. After breakfast, we get ready to trek to Tangbouche will take 4-5 hours to reach Tengboche. One can explore the mesmerizing view of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtaiga, etc. Overnight at Teahouse/Tent.

Day 8: Tengboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp (4570m/15000ft): 5-6 hours

Today trek by walking back to Pangboche and crossing the Dudh Koshi River. Next, we ascend on a trail that will take us to the Ama Dablam Base Camp. The Base Camp is large and open grassland at the foot of Mt. Ama Dablam. Overnight at Ama Dablam Base Camp.

Day (9-25): Ama Dablam Expedition Period

From day 9 to day 25 is our expedition day. Trek Nepal Himalayas guides will provide training on peak climbing techniques and the best ways of using climbing gear such as the ice axe, climbing boots, crampons, harness, ascender, etc. The training will also include using ropes for climbing both up and down. The training will boost our confidence and climbing skills, thus increasing our chance of a successful summit of the mountain. Overnight at Tea house/Tent.

Day 26: Namche to Phakding

Today, we will start later than usual. You can just chill out and, if you didn&rsquot have time yesterday for buying souvenirs, you can buy them now. The path descends steeply down to the Dudh Kosi river which we cross via a high bridge. Through Jorsale and Monjo, where the national park entrance gate is, we walk to Phakding. After 5 hours walking we will be at Phakding. Overnight at Tea house/Tent.

Day 27: Trek to Lukla from Phakding

Final walking day of our trekking, today we trek down to Lukla. It only takes 3-4 hours to reach Lukla. We will have a farewell dinner with our Sherpas and Guides in Lukla. We trek back to Lukla via Tengboche, Namche Bazaar and Phakding.

Day 28: Fly back to Kathmandu

Today, we fly back Kathmandu from Lukla. After arriving Kathmandu you can have a rest in your hotel. If you are interested in buying gifts for your friends and family back home you can visit shops nearby hotel and buy some typical Nepali goods. The evening will be for farewell dinner with Trek Nepal Himalayas.

Day 29: Departure Day

Having a fantastic time in Nepal with Trek Nepal Himalayas team comes to today. A Trek Nepal Himalayas representative will accompany you to the airport to catch your returning flight. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal. See you again in the Himalayan Kingdom.
