Lhotse (8516 m) is the 4th highest mountain in the world. The name of mount Lhotse comes after Mount Everest 8,848 metres (29,029 ft), Mount K2 8,611 metres (28,251 ft) and Kanchenjunga 8,586 m (28,169 ft) . Lhotse lies about 3 Km south of Mount Everest, separated by the south col. In fact, Lhotse mean “south peak or south face”. Lhotse massif includes Lhotse East or middle (8,414 m ), Lhotse Shar (8,383m. ) and Lhotse (8,516m).The main summit of Mt Lhotse was first climbed on May 18, 1956, by the Swiss team of Ernst Reiss and Fritz Luchsinger from the Swiss Mount Everest/Lhotse Expedition. Lhotse can be climbed either from Everest Base Camp or nearby Chhukung. The mountaineer faces many obstacles during Mount Lhotse Expedition i.e. high altitude, bad weather condition, thin oxygen level, windy, & fatigue.

But you should have sound health condition & mentally prepared before attempting Mount Lhotse Expedition. Mount Lhotse Expedition will commence after sweeping scenic flight to land at Tenzing / Hillary airport in Lukla unique airstrip where walk follows many Sherpa farm villages encountering Buddhist prayer walls and bells that rotates with musical holy chime.
Experiencing trekking in the rough Himalayan trails, tasting the local foods, getting the warm welcome from the extremely friendly locals, exploring some of the world best monasteries and witnessing the sunrise in Mount Everest from Kala Patthar & Lhotse Summit are the great Mount Lhotse Expedition`s experiences. The months of April to June is considered as the best mountaineering season. However, Mount Lhotse Expedition can be conquered during September to November months when day is mostly clear during early autumn / falls.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel. On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Trek Nepal Himalayas representative will welcome you , and will assist you to the hotel . Get refreshed from Jetlag . Overnight at Hotel.
Day 02-04: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Lhotse Expeditions.
We have reserved Two days in Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipment, press meeting and to collect permits from concern Government department for the Mount Lhotse expedition.
During sightseeing visit Soyambhunath-The Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath-The crematory place, Boudhanath- Buddhist monastery and Kathmandu Durbar Square-ancient palace place. In the evening enjoy a welcome dinner in authentic Nepali restaurant with cultural program. Overnight at hotel.
Day 05: Scenic flight to Lukla (45 minutes) and trek to Phakding (2,652m. /4-5 hours trekking / 8km approx.)
Early morning take a scenic flight to Lukla. From Lukla, you trek will begin. Meet all crews there and start your trekking to Phakding. A walk via Dudhkoshi River to Phakding is an amazing experience.
The route leads towards many Sherpa farm villages with great views, and the slowly walk reaches you at Phakding village for first overnight in Khumbu region. Overnight at teahouse.
Day 06: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m – 06 hrs.
The second day of the trekking, take early breakfast and start hiking to Namche Bazar, as the height rises the trek gets exciting. On a clear day, you can see the glimpse of Mount Everest before reaching Namche Bazar.
Namche Bazar is known as the Sherpa Capital and is the last point to get the gears needed for the trekking. On Namche Bazar one can find facilities of ATMs, Cyber cafes, stores, shops, restaurants, banks and fresh bakery with busy colorful Saturday market. Overnight at Namche Bazar.
Day 07: Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization.
It is always better to have an acclimatization day in Namche Bazar which allows your body to adapt the thin air. You can also explore the Sherpa capital in the day time. The museum offers bunch of information about mountaineering, flora- fauna with Sherpa cultures and Buddhist religion.
From here enjoy grand panorama of high snowcapped mountains with Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Everest and stunning peak Amadablam. The stunning place Everest View hotel present more spectacular and crystal clear view of snowy mountains including mount Everest.
Day 08: Trek to Thyangboche 3,867 m – 05hrs. After a pleasant rest at Namche, morning walk on gradual winding trail into rhododendron woodland, with views of Amadablam, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Tharmarserku and Kwangde peaks.
The trail leads to a short descend to Imjatse River at Phunge Tenga, after a refreshing stop climb for few hours into a cool serene forest to Thyangboche Monastery. A picturesque spot with mesmerizing views of Amadablam, Kangtenga, Tharmarserku, Kwangde and Mt. Everest, a holy spot as the head lama (Rinpoche) of the monastery resides here.
Day 09: Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m – 05 hrs. The Dingbouche (4260 M) is our set destination for this day. After breakfast, we start our journey through into lovely birch-rhododendron and pines forest. After crossing Imja Khola bridge , we follow the uphill path before reaching wonderful Pangboche village with an ancient monastery. This is the last permanent village before Everest and Lhotse Base Camps, after Pangboche tree lines drops for short rhododendron and juniper bushes.
The trail leads to exposed area with views of Mt. Amadablam after crossing a last bridge leading to a climb to reach within beautiful and scenic Imjatse valley at Dingboche for overnight stop. Dingboche offers spectacular views of Amadablam North Face, Island / Imjatse Peak, Nuptse and Lhotse mountains, a little higher climb on the ridge offers views of world’s 5th highest
Mt. Makalu beyond Amphu Labtsa peak.
Day 10: Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m – 05 hrs.
Wonderful trekking day, along with the way the mighty Himalayas accompany from all sides. Trekking through the Khumbu Glacier moraine. The prayer flags and the stone shrines look just amazing.
On leaving Dingboche, short climb to a ridge with prayer monuments and then on gradual trail with slow climb to reach at Thugla (Dugla), here trail from Pheriche valley and Dingboche joins towards Everest and Lhotse Base Camps. We can embark first views of Mt. Pumori with Taboche, Cholatse, Lobuche, Ama Dablam from Thugla.
Day 11: Trek to Gorakshep 5,170 m and to Lhotse / Everest Base Camp 5, 364 m.
Our route today quite tough due to gain in altitude offering spectacular views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse, Lhotse and Mt. Everest.
After few hours of strenuous scenic walk reaching at Gorakshep as the walk leads over moraine and icy path, Gorakshep a beautiful small place with some nice lodges on route Lhotse and Everest Base Camp. After a break here with optional hike uphill to Kalapathar top at 5,545 m high. The stunning place Kala Patthar offers jaw dropping close view of Mt. Everest with surrounding peaks including Lhotse & Nuptse.
After exploring breathtaking views downhill to Gorakshep and continue walk to Lhotse / Everest Base Camp as the trail leads over ice and moraine.
Day 12: At base camp acclimatization and preparations
Today rest with time for climbing preparation, gathering all climbing gears from the porters and Yaks sorting out the right equipment and planning with some practices before the final climb on top Mt. Lhotse.
Day 13-30: (18 days) Ascent of Mount Lhotse and withdrawal to Base Camp.
We have reserved 18 full days for final bid and ascent of Mt. Lhotse summit, after final preparation for the great climb to the summit with some technical effort around massive tumbling boulders of Khumbu Ice Falls it will be a formidable experience.
From base camp at 5,364m, climbing with some technically difficulty over Khumbu Ice-fall, the climbing route will be taken care by our expert climbing guides with necessary secure and safety procedure. From above base camp one requires positive attitude and thinking with physical and much mental effort to attempts the climb a success.
The climbs requires at least 3-4 camps before reaching the summit and on descend also, however with our climb for 18 days, using maximum 4 camps before reaching top of Lhotse. The last camp will be at South Col ridge connecting with Lhotse and Everest summits.
The final climb diverts South East from South Col as the climb leads to ridge line that connects Lhotse with Everest, then crossing section to reach the summit top, truly a technical challenge in some section of the climb beside Khumbu Ice Falls.
Taking the route of Everest North Side and of Lhotse which is technically straightforward than from Imjatse valley via Southern Face.
During these weeks or more start loading and carrying gears to Camp I and Camp II, in the Western Cwm. Once everyone is well acclimatized, Camp I will be mostly by-passed en-route for Camp II, which will become an Advance Base Camp. The route to this point will involve crossing the crevasses on ladders, jumaring up serac walls and a long tedious plod-up the Western Cwm.
Camp III will be half way up near Lhotse Face at 7,400 meters high, from here a long rising traverse across the snow slopes, a yellow band of rock and the Geneva Spur, leads to the South Col and Camp IV.
As per right clear and favorable weather conditions following our lead guides and leader to the summit on the roof top of world’s 4th highest Mt. Lhotse at 8,516 m /27,940 ft.
After a tremendous experience of life time adventure feeling great in high spirit standing at the summit top of Mt. Lhotse with breathtaking scenery. After conquering the Lhotse peak successfully we back to base camp for overnight.
Day 31: Clean up the base camp and packing for return journey
After grand success of mount Lhotse Expedition we have to clear base camp because we believed on responsible & Eco-Tourism. In the beginning we check the health condition of all members. If evacuation is needed for any member we do then start to clean up. After cleaning verified all climbing gear, Packed & load to the equipment for Yak, Porter & Assistant member.
We dispose all garbage in proper site before leaving base camp. The SPPC (Sagarmatha Pollution Control) will check the camp and depositing the litter to take away from the base camp to disposal sites or back to Kathmandu.
Day 32: Trek to Pangboche 3,900 m – 06 hrs. After grand success to Mount Lhotse Expedition the trail leads towards Thugla via Gorakshep. From Thugla downhill to Pheriche on a windy valley after a nice pleasant walk.
From Pheriche walk continues with mind-blowing views of Amadablam, Lhotse, Nuptse wall, and then heading downhill and back into lower altitude within tree lines. We leave the altitude in every footstep before reaching Pangboche village for Overnight.
Day 33: Trek to Namche Bazaar – 06 hrs.
Walk continues retracing the same route from Pangboche, after crossing a bridge an hour climb to Thyangboche Monastery with amazing scenery.
The trail we travel got many ups and downs. Our path also covers the rhododendron and juniper forest. The wonderful mountain views accompany us all the way back to Namche Bazar.
Day 34: Trek to Lukla – 06 hrs.
The journey to Lukla will start after delicious breakfast in Namche Bazar. From Namche on downhill path to Dudh Kosi River bank, and then with few short ups and downs to reach at Sagarmatha National Park entrance and then walk to Monjo village.
After Monjo with short rest retrace the journey back to Lukla on the same gradual scenic route back to Lukla with memorable adventure climb to Mt. Everest, last day walk back to Lukla on a gradual winding trail passing Phakding and Ghat village then with last uphill climb to Lukla for lunch & overnight.
Day 35: Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel. Early in the morning after breakfast, we take scenic flight to Kathmandu in fine clear weather. Sometime the flight schedule may postpone or delayed due to bad weather and low visibility.
On reaching Katmandu domestic terminal Trek Nepal Himalayas staff transfer you back to respective hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 36-37: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour. We reserve two days for unseen circumstances. Sometime the flight to Kathmandu may delay or postpone because of bad weather condition or low visibility. Trek Nepal Himalayas will offer farewell party at typical Nepalese restaurant.
On this day where Trek Nepal Himalayas leader & guide will submit the reports of Mount Lhotse Expedition at concern Nepal Government Tourism department. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 38: Departure Day
After wonderful experience around high Khumbu region with successful climb on top of Mt. Lhotse will back to homeland today. Trek Nepal Himalayas representative will escort to international airport as per flight schedule. Hope to see you again.
