Nuptse I ( 7,861 m / 25,791 fts ) lies in the Mahalangur Himal range, in the Nepalese Himalayas. Mt Nuptse remains as the gem of Khumbu region lies 2 km south-west of the world tallest mountain mt Everest or Chomolungma. Nuptse is a Tibet word which means west peak, as it is the western segment of the Lhotse-Nuptse massif. The main peak of Nuptse I separated from lothse by a 7556 m high encumber and has 7 Peaks. They are Nuptse I (7,861m /25,791 fts), Nuptse II (7,827m / 25,679 Fts), Nuptse Shar I(7,804 m/ 25,604 fts), Nuptse Nup I(7,784 m/ 25,538 fts), Nubtse Shar II (7,776 m/25,512 fts), Nubtse Nup II (7,742 m/ 25,400 fts), Nuptse Shar III (7,695m /25,246 fts).
The Nuptse ridge goes west-northwest until its steep west-face drops down more than 2300m to the enchanting Khumbu-glacier. One of the interesting facts is south-face of Nuptse is 2500m high and 5 kilometers wide. The main summit Nuptse I (7861m/25,791 fts ) was first summited by a British expedition team of Dennis Davis and Tashi Sherpa from north-ridge on May 16, 1961.
Nuptse Expedition is extremely dangerous due to loose snow with a lot of hollows, and there are also weakly attached cornices of snow. This creates many barriers to climbing, yet is not sturdy enough for safe climbing.
Trek Nepal Himalayas team follow the normal route to Lothse and Nuptse. The Nubtse/ Nuptse Expedition commences from Lukla 2850 approx. after a scenic flight from Kathmandu. The Base Camp lies beside the Khumbu Glacier above its icefall. The steep and rocky south-face of Nuptse slopes rise from the Western valley with the upper part attached with Khumbu-glacier, above the icefall. So, you should follow the instruction of Climbing guides and Sherpa. The Spring season (March to May ) and the autumn season (September to November ) is considered as the best Nuptse expedition seasons.
