Annapurna Base Camp Trek Via Ghorepani Poon hill is one of a complete trekking in Nepal Himalayas. Widely popular as Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is more than trekking which covers the exploration of the natural & cultural wonders of Annapurna trekking region. The magnificent views of the snow mountains, varieties of the landscapes, trekking in the rough Himalayan trail exploring the flora and faunas makes Annapurna Base Camp Trekking complete.The trekking into the foothill of the 10th highest mountain in the world starts and finishes in Pokhara. During the trekking one can enjoy the majestic views of the Himalayas including Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, Gangapurna and more.


The best seasons for this trekking  are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November). Trekking ABC in winter is also possible but the cold might be the factor and also the weather might be bit foggy. Trekking Annapurna Base Camp in monsoon is not recommended due to the heavy rainfall.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel (1334m.)


Upon your arrival at Kathmandu Airport, you will be greeted by our representative then will be transferred to the hotel. In free time, you can take good rest to get a refresh of the jet lag. Overnight at hotel.


Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing (1334m.) and preparation day. (Breakfast and Dinner Included)


A full day Kathmandu Valley sightseeing is dedicated to introducing The City of Temples. This day you will be visiting four of the UNESCO World Heritage Listed sites. First, you will visit Soyambhunath- The Monkey Temple where you can see a handful of monkeys playing around. You can also collect a picturesque view of Kathmandu City from the top.

Then after, you will go to explore Pashupatinath- a temple dedicated to Hindus and is also popular Crematory Place. In Pashupatinath, you can also meet some Sadhu Baba. Then after you tour goes to Boudhanath. Boudhanath is the largest Buddhist Stupa in South Asia. The final place you will be visiting today is Kathmandu Durbar Square which is an ancient palace place.It is also the place of the KUMARI.

After sightseeing, you can pack the gears that you need for the trekking. Check the stuff and make sure everything is included. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner in authentic Nepal restaurant with a cultural program. Overnight at hotel.


Day 3: Drive/ Fly to Pokhara (6 hours drive/30 minutes flight) (Breakfast Included)
By Tourist Bus: 


As your bus leaves early morning at 7 a.m., take an early breakfast and catch your bus from Tourist Bus Station. The journey to Pokhara is always wonderful as you will pass several small and big settlements via raging Trishuli River. On the way, the bus will stop for the lunch.


By Private Vehicle: – You can also drive to Pokhara with a private vehicle. Trek Nepal Himalayas arranges the private vehicle transportation to Pokhara on our client’s request. You are requested to add the request for the private vehicle while making the booking.

By Flight: Those who do not want to travel overland, or want to skip the long journey on the bumpy road can choose this option. The Flight will take around 30 minutes to get to Pokhara.
In Pokhara, you can finally check the gears and can hire or buy them if you have forgotten anything. In the evening walk around the wonderful Phewa Lake yourself. Overnight at hotel.


Day 4: Drive to Nayapul (1070m./1.5 hours) and trek to Ulleri (1960m./4-5 hours/8 km approx..) (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included)


Take an early breakfast and get ready for the trekking. Today you will first take a short drive to Nayapul from Pokhara. From Nayapul, you will be starting your trekking. The trail from Nayapul is an easy trail where you walk through the stone paved steps passing several small villages. Just below Ulleri, you will be treated with the first glimpse of Annapurna South and Himchuli. Overnight in Ulleri at a teahouse.

Note: On the way to Ulleri you will be passing Tikhedhunga(1540m.). If you think to make today&rsquos trekking short then you can stay overnight there.


Day 5: Trek to Ghorepani (2860m./6-7 hours trek/ 12km approx..) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)


A tough yet wonderful trekking day. Today you will be trekking through the dense rhododendron forest. The hiking will be more special if it is in the spring as the Rhododendron blooms around with seven colors. Upon you reach Ghorepani, you will forget all the pains you had during the walking as the mountain views are just perfect and refreshing. Enjoy a hot cup of tea with awe-inspiring views of the mountains. Overnight at the teahouse.


Day 6: Hike to Poon Hill (3210m./1 hour/2.5 k.m approx.), trek to Tadapani (2630m./4-5 hours trek/8k.m approx.) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)


The best day of the trekking. Wake up early morning, take your torch light and start the hiking up to Poon Hill. It takes one hour to get up to Poon Hill from Ghorepani. At Poon Hill, you can collect the superb sunrise view in Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan ranges.

After collecting the amazing views, trek back to Ghorepani for the breakfast, then after start your trek to Tadapani. On the way to Tadapani, the wonderful views of the mountains accompany you. Overnight at Tadapani.


Day 7: Trek to Chhommorong (2170m./4-5 hours trek/9km approx.) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)


The trail till Kimrong is ascending. From Kimrong trek gently to get to Chhmommorng which is small Gurung village. Overnight at the teahouse.


Day 8: Trek to Bamboo (2310m./4-5 hours trek/ 8k.m approx.) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)


As easy trekking day. On the way to Bamboo, you will be passing Sinuwa(2360m.)  which offers wonderful views of Annapurna and the Ghandruk village. Overnight at hotel.


Day 9: Trek to Deurali (3230m./3-4 hours trek/7 km. approx.) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)


Take an early breakfast then start the trekking through the long steep stone staircase to Dobhan (2600m.) From Doban you will further to Himalaya(2920m.) then pass the Hinku Cave before getting to Deurali. Overnight at a teahouse.


Day 10: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp(4130m./5-6 hours trek/ 12km approx.) via Machhapuchre Base Camp(3700m.) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)


Slightly hard plus equally rewarding trekking day. First climb up to Machhapuchre base camp which offers the stunning view of Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna.

Further, push yourself up to Annapurna Base Camp which also treats you with magnificent views of the mountains including, South, Machhapuchhre, AnnSouth, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at a teahouse.


Day 11: Trek back to Bamboo (2310m./7-8 hours trek/15 km approx.) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Long yet easy trekking day. Most of the trail you follow today will be downhill. Trek gently to Bamboo with enjoying the extraordinary landscapes. Overnight at a teahouse.


Day 12: Trek to Jhinu Danda (1780m./5-6 hours/10 km approx.) (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Take an early breakfast and start the trekking. The trail till Khuldighar(2540m.). From there trek downhill to Chhomorng and further more downhill to Jhinu Danda. Jhinu Danda is Natural Hot Spring place where you can take a dip in the hot water pond and refresh the tired body. Overnight at a teahouse.


Day 12: Trek back to Nayapul(3-4 hours trek/8 km. approx.) then drive back to Pokhara(1.5 hours drive): (Breakfast and Lunch Included)

After the breakfast, trek down to Nayapul. Along the way, you can enjoy the wonderful landscapes. From Nayapul you will be taking a drive back to Pokhara. In the free time, you can walk around the Pokhara city yourself. Overnight at hotel.

Note: If you want to skip the trekking, then you can drive back to Pokhara from Jhinu Danda directly.


Day 13: Drive/Fly back to Kathmandu (6-7 hours drive or 30 minutes flight) (Breakfast Included)
By Tourist Bus: –


As your bus leaves early morning at 8 a.m., take an early breakfast and catch your bus from Tourist Bus Station and drive back to Kathmandu. On the way, the bus will stop for the lunch.

By Private Vehicle: – You can also drive back with a private vehicle. Trek Nepal Himalayas arranges the private vehicle transportation to Kathmandu on our client’s request. You are requested to add the request for the private vehicle while making the booking.

By Flight: Those who do not want to travel overland, or want to skip the long journey on the bumpy road can choose this option. The Flight will take around 30 minutes to get to Kathmandu.
In Kathmandu, you can do some last shopping in Thamel. Overnight at hotel.


Day 14: Fly back home. (Breakfast Included)

You will be transferred to Kathmandu International Airport to catch your returning flight. Trip Ends.

Best Seasons

Spring (March-May)

  • Spring is one of the best seasons. As you trek through the rhododendron forest you can see the rhododendron blooming around plus the views also get clearer

Autumn (September-November) 

  • Autumn is another best season for trekking Annapurna Base Camp. This time around, the views gets clear and amazing.

Winter (December-February)

  • Trekking Annapurna Base Camp in winter is also possible. But the atmosphere will be cold and it might be foggy too.


  • Trekking Annapurna Base Camp in Monsoon is not recommended because the heavy rainfall happens.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)

It gets when you go up in the high mountains where the air is thin.

  • Headache
  • Problem on breathing
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Fatigue/loss of energy
  • Loss of appetite

Techniques for preventing AMS

  • Walk slowly and take small breaks during the trekking
  • Drink more water and avoid alcohol
  • Take acclimatization days during the trek
  • Avoid smoking
  • Eat light and high-calorie diets, foods in rich potassium is recommend
  • Get prepare with the warms clothes
  • It is better to try some hiking before going the high altitude.

Some Medication Suggestion of AMS

  • Paracetamol and Ibuprofen for headaches
  • Anti-sickness medicines, like promethazine for nausea
  • Acetazolamide to prevent and treat high altitude sickness

Common AMS treatment

  • Descend down to the lower altitude and go up again once you feel better. If it does not improve even after descending or get worse then you should see the doctor.
  • Take the suggested medicine, take ibuprofen or paracetamol for a headache, if you feel sick then take anti-sickness medicines.
  • Always share your companions if you are not feeling well so that they can help you before it is too late.

You are requested to provide a photocopy of the passport and Nepal visa. Also, please provide us 3 fresh passport size photographs.

We will provide you 3-star category hotels in Kathmandu. During the trekking, you will be using the teahouses.

Foods, you get during the trekking is safe and healthy. In the altitude, we recommend you to eat the local food and the vegetarian. Our guides are knowledgeable will take you to the best places for the food.

During the trekking, you can get the bottled water easily and it cost US$ 2 in the low elevations and US$ 3-4 in higher elevations. Next option would be, taking 1 or 2-liter water bottle plus the water purifier with you so that you can use tap or spring water.

Flight Delays
Sometimes flights delay to and from Lukla are expected. In the worst case, if you cannot fly in/out  Lukla, then we will arrange the sharing helicopter which normally cost US$ 500 extra per person.
