Your Bhutanese adventure begins with your arrival in Paro, the only city in Bhutan with an international airport. Your guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit Paro Dzong, a fortress and Buddhist monastery, and Ta Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan, for an introduction to Bhutanese heritage and culture.
Travel to the capital city, Thimphu, home to the Motithang Takin Preserve, where you’ll see Takin, Bhutan’s national animal. Visit the Buddha Viewpoint, a spot offering panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley, and the Centenary Farmers’ Market. The day ends with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten, a monument dedicated to world peace.
On the way to Punakha, stop at the Druk Wangyal Chortens, 108 stupas built for the peace of Bhutanese soldiers’ souls. Visit the stunning Punakha Dzong at the confluence of two rivers and the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a four-storied temple offering spectacular city views.
